This is a very simple history of thanksgiving: Originally It was celebrated by the fist English settlers in the US to mark one year of survival in the new world in 1621. Later many states and territories had their own version of this celebration.
WE can give thanks to God for all His blessings and for our health and fortune and good harvest and job, etc. The first settlers gave thanks that they were still alive and survived thus far and that they had food and shelter to fend from the cold and friends to help them when needed and that they were healthy again since they had lost so many to sickness when they first arrived there.
